The University of Minnesota’s Writing Across the Curriculum Program is composed of two programs,Teaching with Writing (TWW) and the Writing-Enriched Curriculum (WEC). TWW addresses instructional interests and queries with topical panel discussions, interactive workshops, short courses, writing retreats, instructional consultations, and deep archives of support materials. WEC offers academic departments a faculty-driven and data-rich process for collectively considering and articulating locally relevant writing expectations and pedagogical approaches. As departments generate, implement, and assess Undergraduate Writing Plans, they engage in long-term partnership with the WAC program team. TWW and WEC have proven to be mutually sustaining; participation in one program leads to participation in the other. Both programs define writing broadly to include verbal, numeric, and visual modes and both programs emphasize inquiry-based, inductive, and context-relevant approaches to instructional support.
